The pages of the PDF walk documents are sized to be printed onto A4 paper, but formatted as a square (see the example full walk description on the 'Home' page), so once printed they can be trimmed to fit easily into the map case provided. Each walk sheet is also colour-coded to allow quick identification. Each walk comprises of a detailed route description and a sketch map which is intended for use in conjunction with the Club Alpino Italiano (CAI) map. The sketch map is detailed enough to allow the walker to identify the route of their walk on the CAI map. This approach is used since the tracks and paths marked on the CAI map are not always accurate or up to date. Sibillini Walks does not use any explicit ratings for walk difficulty. Instead, figures for 'Total Time', 'Total Ascent' and 'Total Distance' allow the walker to select routes which they judge are within their capability. If you are unable to confidently determine if a route is within your ability, then we suggest you start with the shorter routes (such as Walk 4) to get a feel for the rigors involved. Although each walk overview gives an indication of the path conditions to expect, please bear in mind that these are mountain walks; conditions underfoot can vary greatly due to natural erosion. You don't need to be an expert or highly experienced mountain walker to tackle these routes, but you will need to be competent and confident in your ability. Some of the routes require the use of a compass for navigation, but we recommend that you carry a compass with you on all the walks, and are familiar with its use. Irrespective of conditions at the start of a walk, you should be prepared for variations in temperature and weather. The contents of the guide CD are for personal use only and should not be distributed further.
