Walk 7 - Monte Macchialta and Macchia Cavaliera Circuit.

This circular route begins along a ridge bordering the Piano Piccolo, to the South-East of the Piano Grande. By beginning at the high pass of Forca di Presta, you are almost immediately rewarded with stunning views of the two Pianos, the West of Monte Vettore, as well as South into the National Park of Monti della Laga.

At peak times, refreshments are (sometimes) available from the Rifugio degli Alpini at Forca di Presta, as well as from the Rifugio Citta di Ascoli, which is at the walk’s half way point.

Total Time: 5.5 hours
Total Ascent: 500 metres
Total Distance: 14 km

Although there is no clear path for much of the first half of this route, navigation is not difficult as you follow a rounded ridge. The paths for the return leg are clear, but use of a compass is recommended to ensure you follow the correct one. There are a few steep ascents and descents which can be slippery when the ground is wet.
