Walk 18 - Val di Bove Circuit.

This walk follows the ridge which circles Val di Bove, visiting three peaks: Monte Bicco (2,052 metres); Monte Bove Sud (2,169 metres); Monte Bove Nord (2,112 metres). As well as giving views down into the pretty Val di Bove, this horseshoe shaped high ridge provides spectacular panoramas on all sides.

The walk starts a little South of Ussita, at the winter sports centre of Pian dell’Arco. Here, refreshments are usually available at a bar near the car park, or less reliably at one of the ski lifts which sometimes operate for sightseers out of the skiing season. However, the majority of the walk is away from the paraphernalia, and facilities, of the ski industry.

Total Time: 7.0 hours
Total Ascent: 1,040 metres
Total Distance: 12 km

The majority of this walk is along well used routes, although paths can be vague in places. There are no signs marking the route, so some careful navigation is required in order to avoid taking the wrong paths. Terrain along the ridges varies, with sections which are wide and rounded, while others are steep sided and rocky. An element of confidence and competence is necessary along some rocky scrambles where it can be slippery in wet conditions.
